Using Quick mode, at f/2.5, the shots averaged at zero, at f/3.2, they were - 3/16 inch (behind the zero), at f/4.5 at -11/16 inch, and at f/5.6 -1-1/8 inches to the rear inline from the camera. I checked the focus point every couple of shots to be sure nothing moved. Next I tried changing the aperture, nothing else. I read that this lens had inconsistent focus. Two were at +5/16 inch and two at +7/8 inch. One was at 7/16 and another was at 13/16.Ĭhanging to Quick mode, 6 out of 10 were exactly on zero. Using Live view and f/1.8, the lens focused consistently 9/16 inch in front of the zero for 8 out of 10 shots. Nothing was changed or moved and the center focus point was dead on the "0" mark. Using mirror lockup and a remote switch, I made several shots. I set up a scale at about 30 degrees and set the camera on a tripod about 36 inches back. Also, the focus changes with the aperture valve. I did some test and found it focuses different with using Live view or Quick mode. I tried to post this yesterday but somehow it disappeared. Or perhaps you're shooting at night (slow shutter speeds?). Mebbe the focal length is wrong for what you'd like to do. Is it a focusing issue? I've owned two 50mm f1.8 II lenses, and they both needed MFA adjustment (FF/BF), but they are sharp as heck (esp stopped down). Again, is this just down to my inexperience? ![]() I also found the lens not as sharp as my kit lens, 18 - 55mm IS. But you can shoot in Aperture Priority if you wish (keeping adjustments to a minimum). Is that just down to my inexperience? Do many of you adjust the aperture subconsciously before taking quick shots?Īperture is what gives your images their "look." It's the first thing I adjust (I shoot primarily in Manual Exposure Mode). This is not what I want to do with this lens, I just want to walk around and fire off shots without interrupting what I am doing or where I am going.Īre they DOF issues? Exposure issues? Focusing issues? Can you post some samples (with EXIF intact)? Gotta describe what you're shooting, what the conditions are, and what look you're after. I found it quite difficult to get anything useful out of it, without stopping, correcting the aperture and taking a few shots until I was happy. ![]()
